Having accustomed to
practicing different ways of profaning
people dignity, the security forces
(intelligence agencies) would only skim
over the urgent statements, which
denounce the detention campaigns, then
wait indifferently the storm to be
calmed down, and their victims to be
completely forgotten.
To confront this
absolute hostility practiced against
citizenship and human rights it is the
very task of us not to issue routine
declaration, but rather make each and
every additional detention day of any
freedom fighter as a disgrace mark in
the jailer' front. Together with taking
into consideration that it is one of
our main concern to expose widely all
kinds of chasing, harassment or freedom
limitation, making them known in every
time and place. It is also our duty to
reinforce and advance our solidarity
with victims by converting authorities'
oblivion and neglecting into vivid and
omnipresent memory.
although there is a
great deal of media, cultural and
political sympathy with the intellectual
and journalist Michel Kilo, but it is
still necessary to create a collective
gathering point, able to exert more
effective pressure and blockade upon his
beaters in order to have him, as well as
his colleagues, released.
Our aspiration, as an
international committee, is to be this
collective gathering for all those who
are sympathetic with Michel and the rest
of prisoners, in a course of an
effective mechanism, by which we would
achieve this aim. We will insist, in the
same time, on our confrontation with the
policy of quieting and oblivion, setting
ourselves opposed to all human rights
violations.
The committee
summarizes its goals in the following:
1- Releasing the
intellectual and journalist Michel Kilo
and all his colleagues, as well as
holding up every judicial pursuit
against them since it is in a clear
disagreement with Syrian Constitution
and the International Convert on Civil
and Political Rights which Syria had
already ratified.
2- Judging all the
exceptional trials in Syria as a result
of the State of Emergency Law that have
been applied since 1963. Also because of
the security mentality which must be
invalidated in the contemporary world;
the thing that make us sustain the
struggle of Syrian democratic and
jurists people in the aim of putting an
end to the State of Emergency Law
together with releasing all prisoners of
conscience.
3- The committee
highly appreciates the democratic
Syrians' striving for an up-to-date
democratic constitution, and a peaceful
transition to democracy.
Committee's
working plan
1- The committee will
do its best to participate in all
symposiums, training workshops and
political and national conferences to
keep this dossier alive, because
oblivion is a victory for the oppressor.
2- Working on
activating this issue in the audible,
visible and written mass media.
3- Establishing an
international, Arabic and Syrian
solidarity network for the activists
engaging in human rights field, for
releasing Michel Kilo and all his
colleagues.
4- Holding frequent
meetings with the High Delegation of
Human Rights.
5- making interaction
and communication with the following
Arab and international corps:
a- The exclusive
reporter for the independence of judges
and lawyers.
b- The exclusive
reporter for freedom of speech and
opinion.
c- The private Team
intended for arbitrary arrest.
d- The press
institutions, organizations and
societies working on freedom of the
press, expression and practicing a
profession.
